  • Junior Professor (W1) of Computational Materials Science with Tenure Track to W3

The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Engineering Science at the Uni-versity of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Junior Professor (W1) of Computational Materials Science with Tenure Track to W3

(minimum salary: 4,912 euros per month). This is a fixed-term civil service position.

We are looking for an engineering-minded scholar with a strong research profile and in-depth knowledge in one of the following areas:

Material taxonomy and ontology: Creation of a common language and development of AI-supported database structures
Grey box material models: Combinations of simulation or physical models with real data
Data-driven material processing: Use of processing data for machine learning and predictive statement on process- or production-related properties

Applicants should have a very good scientific record in research through relevant publications in national and international journals and demonstrate a committed attitude to academic teaching. Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research is welcomed, as is international networking.

Cooperation with existing research groups in applied information and within the Faculty of Engineering Science along with participation in cross-faculty focus areas (Advanced Materials and others) as well as cooperation with non-university institutions (Neue Materialien Bayreuth GmbH and others) is expected. Proposals for this are expressly desired.

In teaching, the future junior professorship should strengthen and expand the bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in materials science and materials engineering, in particular. The ability and willingness to hold lectures in German and English is a prerequisite.
