You should have received an updated copy of the software, via your Tradebit-supplied email address, the last time I pushed a new version.
Nevertheless, I have emailed you a download link to the latest version of the software. The link will expire in 3 days. Enjoy!
Per popular request, I have created a 3-part series of videos documenting how to install my free YouTube-to-Mp3 converter software. I start with only a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04, and then proceed to install all required packages and dependencies required for the script to run. Finally, I install and configure the script, and I demonstrate its functionality.
Note: I chose Ubuntu 12.04 because I am most familiar with it, and it is arguably the easiest Linux version to configure for my software.
FYI - This installation guide overlaps installation/configuration steps required for the paid-for version of my software as well. So, you can also use these videos as a general guide for installing/configuring the paid-for version.
I hope this helps those of you who are new to Linux, or those uncomfortable configuring the server and installing the software without some kind of guide/tutorial.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. See the video tutorial links below:
The paid-for version, by default, comes with flv, mp4, mp3, and 3gp converted file formats. And it allows you to easily add more file formats via some simple edits to the Config (config.class.php) file...
There is no single country that is guaranteed to be able to download "all" youtube videos. Countries can be blocked by the video uploaders, and there is no way to predict or prevent that. The best you could do is use a proxy or VPN service to disguise your server's IP address, and/or perhaps figure out which country or countries have the fewest blocked videos.
There does currently appear to be a problem converting at least some Vevo videos for both the free and paid-for versions. I am investigating the issue and will let you know when a fix is available.
Edit:Can I please get some verification that the problem is occurring for everyone, and not just for specific countries? I live in the US, so I can confirm that the issue is evident here.
Edit:Upon further investigation, I'm beginning to think that Vevo videos on YouTube may have recently implemented some kind of additional protection against downloads. I checked out the download links for Vevo and non-Vevo videos, and they are virtually identical in the code. Which seems to indicate that some additional form of protection is now in place on YouTube servers -- for only Vevo videos? It's early days yet, so I will continue exploring and keep you updated. Any feedback you guys can provide would also be helpful!
I'm not entirely sure what changed in the YouTube download URLs, but I have discovered an alternate solution for obtaining Vevo download links (as well as regular YouTube video links).
At the moment, I'm busy testing the new code on both Linux and Windows, for both the free and paid-for versions.
Soon I will be pushing out new versions of my software, and I will notify you here when these new versions are available.
DO NOT USE THE ZIP DISTRIBUTION LOCATED AT THE ABOVE LINKED PAGE. USE ONLY THE ZIP FILE ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.
New in this release:
1) This fix addresses a problem with the conversion of Vevo videos.
Only YouTubeToMp3Converter.class.php was updated, and only code in the DownloadVideo() and SetFlvUrls() methods was changed.
I will soon be updating the paid-for version of the app as well, and I will email an updated (free) copy to all those who have already purchased the script. (Updates will be sent to your Tradebit email addresses only.)
As always, please let me know if you have any questions/concerns regarding the above and/or the code.
