I'm looking for a new message board system. I've been running XMB but due to recent upgrades done on my server it no longer works. I was thinking about trying a different one anyways. I've looked at phpbb so far. Any other decent ones around. Free ones I mean.

I would recommend devbb as it should be a better XMB but the devbb install just dont work at the moment (javaman??? are you listening)
phpbb was built by comittee , its carp.resistance is...
MVC is the current buzz in web application architectures. It comes from event-driven desktop application design and doesn't fit into web application design very well. But luckily nobody really knows what MVC means, so we can call our presentation layer separation mechanism MVC and move on. (Rasmus Lerdorf)

Thanks guys.
Looks like the latest phpbb has addressed those vulnerabilities. As for exploiting a bb via the install file only a moron would leave the install file on the server after intallation. lol
As for XMB I just kept finding too many bugs in that system. I spent weeks rewriting sections of the code to fix the bugs I found.Spookster

I like - this is a pretty impressive board & the install is idiot-proof, just gotta try and hack it & test it with a few concurrent users - but yep so far well impressed .resistance is...

Its server heavy... i know hosts that have banned it because it resource drains to much on shared servers... well at least the cgi version does
