  • Whats your take on MariaDB

    Just heard about this from a friend of mine and wondered what you all thought about this upcoming alternative to MySQL called MariaDB? I hear it is becoming more and more popular and those who use it really like it.
    If a php file only has php code within it you do not need to use the closing php tag
    A good way to remember objects from arrays is you shoot objects with arrows Example: $name->id; then Arrays are $name['id'];

    Upcoming? Maria was first released almost 7 years ago.

    You can see what Maria says about Mysql Vs Maria here:
    https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/ma...ysql-features/

    In a nutshell, yes it is better. It is also the default DB for XAMPP, thus the "M" in XAMPP.

    There is also Percona.

    To save time, lets just assume I am almost never wrong.

    The XY Problem
    The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution (X) rather than your actual problem (Y). This leads to enormous amounts of wasted time and energy, both on the part of people asking for help, and on the part of those providing help.

      A lot of people don't seem to realise that something exists until the last minute. My web host recently switched to using MariaDB and presumably other hosts have also switched over recently which means that suddenly a lot of people are suddenly hearing about it for the first time (I first heard of it several years ago so it wasn't new to me).

      In some ways it's a lot like mySQLi and PDO that apparently a lot of people are suddenly hearing about for the first time given that the interface they have been using was deleted last year. Both of these "new" interfaces are over 12 years old now so in comparison MariaDB being only 7 makes it newer than new.
