  • Store Paid and Free members

    Hi !

This question is similar to the one I posted earlier, which can be seen at:

I wanted to confirm if I can store Paid and Free members in one table, and distinguish them by a field (is_paid) which is 0 if member is Free and 1 if member is paid. If a free members becomes paid member, I just change this field from 0 to 1. Is this a good way to do it ?

Do other Application Service Provider websites follow the same procedure.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks,
    James

That is indeed a good way.

Sme will probably do it like this, but other will have another setup. Depends a bit on what your data looks like and if you do the same for payed as for free members.

If you run a realy big site, i could imagen you'd have a completely seperated environment for the payed members, with it's own dedicated server, and then another environment for the free members (so that the free ones don't eat aways more resources then you are willing to spend on them.
Posting guidelines I use to see if I will spend time to answer your question : http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
