Or, for that matter, Matrix: Revolutions.

Sure, they might improve your "productivity" by, like, only 10 seconds a day, but still, as an armchair UI buff I love these things:

If you love that, you'll love the version of Firefox coming soon that won't even need tabs.
    Is IE9 a modern browser?
IE9 is at least 2 years behind the modern web.

It's still alpha-ish, and you'd have to piece things together from Mozilla dev blogs, nightly builds, etc., but it's comin'. Someone told me you can see it in a video somewhere, too. Ubiquity is involved. Cool stuff.

I know that's not very informative but watch for it. Maybe by the beginning of next year?

          • Mouse Gestures (Move mouse with holding right-click)
          • Wheel Gestures (Scroll wheel with holding right-click)
          • Rocker Gestures (Left-click with holding right-click and vice versa)
Uhm… I have only one mouse button and no mouse wheel. What do I do now?

Apple still hasn't gone to a two-button mouse? That's surprising. Kings of user interface innovation and they can't stick a second button on the mouse?

I know there is wheel functionality on at least some mac mice now, my daddy-in-law's mac has this funky little ball that acts like a wheel. It's pretty slick actually.

But no second button??? My mouse at home has 7 buttons and I use them all.

They have. I'm using it at the moment (well, not as I type). The 360° trackball is nice (when it's not clogged up), but the clicking functionality leaves a lot to be desired:

The Mighty Mouse does not report whether the right and left sensor is activated simultaneously. In fact, it reports a right-click only when there is no finger contact on the left side of the mouse. This means that the Mighty Mouse cannot support mouse chording, used by CAD software, games, and other applications where multiple functions are mapped to the mouse.
It's weird that they can't seem to get the mouse right. I use a Logitech mouse with the Mac Mini at home and wouldn't go back to an Apple unit.

It’s not that I’m suffering from it and can’t do anything about it. You can plug any USB mouse into a Macintosh, it doesn’t have to be an Apple mouse. I just happen to own such a mouse but I’m still happy with it. Just wanted to point out the negligence of the fact that not everybody has a two button mouse with scrollwheel just as not everybody is using a computer screen internet browser.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how one would play WoW with a one-button mouse

Of course, Everquest was all keyboard, with mouse support an after thought, so I guess it's possible.

I thought I had read you don't need a second button with a Mac and one button is sufficient for everything. When I worked at SGI, we had Macs everywhere but that's the last I ever used one and don't recall ever needing it.

Back in college my roommate and I used to play StarCraft over the LAN on my old G3 tower. The right mouse button equivalent was Command-Click. It was a pain initially but we got used to it. Still not ideal, though...

It's a well-known fact that Apple hate buttons and tend to reduce them; look at the iPod Classic, whose buttons don't look like buttons (and sometimes suffer due to this) and the Shuffle, which crams every function into two incredibly overloaded ones. I'm glad they saw sense and switched to a dual-button mouse, but even then they don't have clearly defined buttons...the form factor's a bit weird. Oh, and they dropped the num. pad on their keyboards recently.

Reminds me of that Onion bit MSuffern posted a while ago where the laptop's keyboard was replaced by a big ipod wheel. Still makes me chuckle thinking about it! Too bad I'm too lazy to find it and include a link.

Check this one out for the ultimate in armchair UI. I do not own one of those yet, but it is on the list.
