C/C++ vs Objective C/Objective C++ vs D vs Pascal

Is there anyone here who knows where I can find feature and performance comparisons between these languages? I'm trying to find resources for a friend who wants to start learning a "real" programming language, and these are all pretty close to the machine. (He asked for something with lots of power but closer to the machine than Java...)
