  • Newbie Question - Visual C++ or Visual C# or something else?

Hello, I'm wanting to write a standalone program that:

    1. Runs on XP, Vista and NT2000.
    2. Basic insert/update into a local database.
    3. Local database is only accessible by the standalone program.
    4. Standalone program needs Trial Time/ License Key functionality.

    My questions are:

    1. What is the best language? I'm looking at Visual C++ or Visual C#.
    2. What database to use? No idea here.
    3. What / Where is a good resource for researching stuff like this?

    Thanks.

    1) Either one would suffice, although C++ might be easier for you if you're a procedural coder.
    2) SQLite would probably fit the bill here.
    3) The internet. No, I'm not kidding.

      Thanks bdl.

SQLite is exactly what I was looking for. You are right about the internet. Google is my best friend at times. My background is web programming (self taught) using ASP and Javascript/VBScript so learning a new language is going to be fun. I just hope I have the patience.

Since I'm in the early stages, do you know if Visual C++ Express comes with its own compiler?

      Thanks
