    Memory Meltdown

    Yeah, so I just bought 512MB of pc 2700 plugged it in and it started smoking. I've put ram in \ out of my \ a computer LOTS of times, never had one melt on me. Why did this happen (melted the ram and the slot on my MB) Is it somthing I did or just defective memory? Just thought I'd check before I went to return it and started fuming.

    The RAM had a SHORT on the board OR it was seated incorrectly and shorted.

    The problem may be in proving which was which.

      Did you have a memory module in that slot before you stuck that one in? If you did then the fault prolly lies on the new memory.
