  • Win XP installation

    I formatted my system but to my surprise i was not able to install windows XP pro!!!I recieive an error saying it cannot be run from the dos mode. How do u guys install windows XP

    You need to boot from the CD-ROM. You need to make sure that the BIOS is set to allow "Boot from CD-ROM".
    XP Pro will then format the HDD before it installs.

      inside the i386 folder is a file called winnt.exe (it can be run from DOS)

        Hey Celtboy, do u mean to say that it can be install like any other windows but by opening winnt.exe from the DOS mode itself....

          That's the way I do it and it is the easier way. If your machine cannot boot from a CD, there is a utility on the CD forget where like under Tools that let's you make a set of floppies. At least with NT4 and 2k, never had the need to try it with XP.

          Trying to rig the thing to run from DOS mode is just asking for problems.
