  • An old apple computer...

There is an old apple computer in one of my high school classes..apple 2 maybe i dont know the exact modle..but its probably worth alot and i'm gonna ask if i can get it for free at the end of the school year, but if i had to pay for it..how much would it go for?..Its not something that i'd use, it'd just be something that i would keep as a collector item.

according to eBay, that'll fetch anywhere from $1.00 to as high as $25.00....

Don't know if something is old it automatically makes it valuable But it would be cool to have around...

I'm a puter tech for a school division, filled with old Apples like that. My advice? Don't waste your time. Some appreciate them for nostalgia purposes, but you may have an Apple Core group in the area or a recycle program that takes the old machines as well.

Also look into an auction. Our schools have a public auction at the end of each school year where all old equipment (that we deem junk...heh...) is auctioned off. Typically a palette of computers and monitors (about 20-30) will go for about $2 - $5. That would be the time to clean up. Be sure to ask about it!

I personally have an Apple Classic that I keep...because it works, and may one day have some use (it has a few finance programs on it), but the TCO on these older machines can be just too high.

The other problem is that (especially with computers), the older the get, the further their value drops, as their usefulness is gone. Computers are deemed a utility, and as such, they don't yet appreciate in value over time.

One day, as they become more novelty than utility, you'll see their prices start to go up.

That's what has happened with Atarii's and Dreamcasts and original NES's.....a boxed one can fetch up to $100.....just because they're so hard to get....

Hmm. I wouldn't call it a waste of time. If you are into it, but wouldn't consider it an investment. One day I'm going to fill my garage with old (working) pc's. Then plop down to some good old fashioned oregon trail and top it off with some lemonade stand. Text based RPG anyone?

Well I dont know, I just thought it'd be cool to have. If i could find the first nintendo with mario brothers..i'd get it. It's cool to know that my generation (80's) was the first generation that computers were sold to home users and that the apple 2 was one of the first ones. I see your point that you cant really do anything with it even if i does work.

no, no, IMO you can do all sorts of things with it... it just isn't worth much as a collector's item...
