configuring a 2wire 4011G router

I've recently moved and had to change my ISP, they left me with this router that wont let me open pages like facebook or log in to etsy. It's also terribly slow. I sort of got around it by using hotspot shield but I'd really like it to work the way it should.
It's very frustrating to spend the little time I have on the PC trying to get it to work (online)
I'm using an old assembled computer with Win XP
I would really appreciate any help. Thank you in advance
