  • file:// stopped working in IE?!?

    hi guys.

in our management system we link to some files on the server. the link is effectively:

    file://server/module/uploads/DLL000050/Risk_Method_Safety_Pack.xls

all of a sudden this has stopped working for some reason. it works in chrome. and it works when i use a winxp machine to test it. but IE9 (version 9.0.8112.16421) suddenly has stopped working with file:// links.

we use file:// as users need to be able to edit & save this XLS file.

i can connect to the file using the run box and \\server\module\uploads\DLL000050\Risk_Method_Safety_Pack.xls

arghhh! im going away for 2 weeks paternity leave tomorrow so this needs sorting ASAP! any help greatly appreciated!

    bump

i still cannot open documents via file:// on any of our IE9 machines. i guess it could be added security on a recent patch but its breaking certain areas of our management system now. chrome etc work fine

but as this is a corporate intranet php system its going to be a pain to get people to move over to chrome/firefox etc.

alternatively can someone give me a method of accessing files and allowing users to edit & save them. this all worked fine until recently.

If there is Internet content on your page, IE won't follow the link.

i added the servers to the trusted list and it works now.

it must be something new as it worked until a couple of weeks ago
