How to posistion layer dynamically?

I am developing similar to ask.com result page on mouseover on binocular icon. The page will have thumbnail images, if the user click on that thumbnail the preview image will opened in <div> layer. I am facing the problem in positioning the layer. Please suggest tips to resolve this issue.
