Cells expanding in my tables messing up with my layout

Hello I'm designing this site:

I've created the layout in tables. It looks fine in FF but seems to be expanding in IE 5 for Mac and XP on PC.

Any ideas why?

I've spent an hour trying to figure it out...

Expanding

Apart from the obvious, being that it is not a very good idea to use tables for layout purposes, could you indicate what you mean exactly with "expanding"? I don't have IE5 around--and I doubt if many people do these days--so I can't see what you mean; IE6 on Win2k seems to behave well.
