vertical-align problems

I am using vertical-align in the top of my page. I have given it the attribute middle because I want the logo to appear mid way between the top of the banner and the bottom. But as you will see, the logo is aligned with the top.

What am I doing wrong?

se what I mean here. The logo should be placed midway and so should the three thumbnails.

I believe you have to apply the property to the inline objects (in your case the images) and not the containing object.
