I have an idea of creating an online poll for my school on rating who is the hottest girls at my school. How would i write the code for that. I was thinking it would be a button next to the name of the girl, and then the girl with the most amount of votes is the hottest.

In my opinion, it would be better to do a search on the web and find some of the free poll scripts that are available. This should be much more easier and quicker for you - rather than trying to code it all yourself.
