downloading files

I want to put a link on my site so when you click on it it will start to download the the file. Does it have to have the extension .exe?

To allow ppl to download files from your site, all you have to do is place a link to your file like you normally do for other links :

<a href="yourFile.fileXtension">Some text....</a>
