Any ideas how to create this graphic?

I want to try and create the graphic that is featured on the homepage of this site. It's the big image on the site, aligned to the right of the content text.

Any ideas, tutorials or something to aid me?

Then to fade away you just apply a layer mask with a gradient on the reflection layer. It can take some practice to master but it's not too tough to get a working sample even as a beginner. For curved reflections I believe you'll just be applying a warp to the layers (requires Photoshop CS2 or higher).

This gets into doing non-horizontal reflections which is what you'll need to get used to with any type of interesting reflections...

For curved reflections I believe you'll just be applying a warp to the layers (requires Photoshop CS2 or higher).

Warp is one way; another alternative might be to use the Shear filter (Filter > Distort > Shear).

Ah, I didn't know about Shear. Cool! This seems pretty handy as it preserves your shear line between layers and uses (that way you don't have to try to match the curve of the reflection to the curve of the original as you would have to do with warp). Another bonus is that you don't have to have CS2 or higher because it's present on my version of Photoshop 7.

The one minor downside seems to be that you have to rotate the image onto its side before using shear (and then rotate it back when you're done with shear) but for the avoided hassle of trying to match one curve to another I'd say this is my new way of choice!

Edit: Well I used to have the image embedded in this post but freehostia stopped displaying it . The image still exists at the directory listed but you'll have to copy and paste the URL to get to it because for some reason I can't even direct link to the image even though I haven't disabled hotlinking.

This lovely image is based on the results page of a google image search for "photoshop curved reflection." The PSD file is here (http://rowsdower.freehostia.com/Reflection.psd) if you want to see the layers, masks, and opacities that were used to get there. I'm a photoshop beginner so bear that in mind as you look at this.

My Photoshop version is CS4.

CS4 is higher than Photoshop 7 so you're fine. You'll have all of my options plus a few. Can't say why you are unable to view the PNG file (it's there, I just checked). Did you copy the link and paste it into your address bar?

Anyway, I'm attaching a jacked up JPEG version here so you can at least see what you can get with the "Shear" tool...
